Clarify stand on Bhindranwale issue, Bhattal asks SAD

Chandigarh (PTI): the Opposition Congress in Punjab on Saturday asked the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal to clarify its stand on the installation of a portrait of slain 'Khalistani' militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale at the Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

"I want to ask why SAD is maintaining silence on this issue and not clarifying its stand. We also want to ask why the party allowed the installation of Bhindranwale's portrait in the museum at Harmandir Sahib in a hurried manner and even tried to hide this fact from the public," state president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal told reporters here after holding a meeting of MLAs and senior leaders.

Bhattal said the Congress has also called an all-party meeting on Monday to criticise this move. "We have convened an all-party meeting of all secular parties to chastise the government on the installation of the portrait," she said.
