Festive mood in BJP after RS wins

Bhopal (PTI): Festive mood prevailed in the BJP following the victory of three party candidates in the biennial Rajya Sabha polls held on Friday with leaders describing the victory as the victory for the party's policies.

Congratulating the the newly elected Rajya Sabha candidates -- Prabhat Jha, Maya Singh and Raghunandan Sharma -- state chief Narendra Singh Tomar said, "the victory has strengthened democracy as MLAs have rejected Congress Party's policy of horse-trading in the biennial polls."

"The way MLAs have voted in the polls, it has matured democratic values. The result has rejected the Congress party's culture of horse-trading ... this is the victory for BJP's policies and programmes," Tomar said in a statement.

Accepting defeat, Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi alleged, it was a victory of money power. "If we had notes (money), we could have got votes," she said.

However, she also accepted that position of party backed candidate Vivek Tankha was weak since the beginning as he was dependent on the support of opposition members.

Senior BJP leaders Babulal Gaur, Laxmikant Sharma and others also congratulated the newly elected members saying it was a victory for the ruling party's programmes and policies.
