Mumbai airport runway shut for one-hour due to poor visibility
Mumbai (PTI): The main runway at the Mumbai airport reopened for operations after being shut down for nearly one-hour because of poor visibility and a suspected tyre-burst of a foreign airline.
"The main runway 09/27 is now open for operations after it was closed due to poor visibility (500-metres) at 6.26 pm," a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokespserson said.
Due to this, some flights had to be diverted to other airports, the spokesperson said, without giving any details.
A few flights have, therefore, been delayed, he said.
The runway was first closed for operations after a suspected tyre-burst of a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Jeddah.
Consequently, two flights--Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong and Kingfisher Airlines from Thiruvananthapuram--had to make a go-around for several minutes before landing.
