Three more die, mini-bus accident toll rises to 14
Howrah (WB) (PTI): With three more persons including an infant succumbing to injuries today, the toll in yesterday's bus accident in Howrah station mounted to 14.
While the child died early in the morning at Howrah Orthopaedic Hospital, two men succumbed to their injuries later at Howrah General Hospital and B R Singh Hospital.
Six injured passengers were undergoing treatment in hospitals where the condition of three was stated to be serious, the sources said.
Seven of the 14 dead were identified while photographs of the other deceased were put up on the notice board of Howrah General Hospital seeking information about their identity.
Postmortem was being conducted on Sunday.
Eight persons were killed on the spot while three others died in hospital yesterday. Of the dead, three were women.
The accident occurred when the driver of a minibus, while overtaking another one on the same route from the wrong side, lost control of the vehicle which rammed into the railings of Bankim Setu and plunged 40 feet below on railway tracks of Howrah station.
Before crashing on the ground, the Sankrail-Howrah minibus hit the overhead traction wires.
