India win three more medals in Asian Youth Games

Singapore (PTI): Rohit Kumar clinched gold in the boys' javelin throw as India added three more medals to their kitty on the third day of the inaugural Asian Youth Games, here on Thursday.

After making an impressive start by bagging three medals, including a gold on the first day, the Indians failed to add to their tally on Wednesday.

However, things turned for the better today when Rohit hurled the javelin for a personal best 74.60 metres, which bettered his previous mark of 71.52 that he set at the Junior Nationals in Mysore last year.

Selwyn Jebaraj clocked 54.41 seconds in the boys 400m hurdles to bag the silver while China's Chen Dong (53.19sec) walked away with the gold medal in the category.

Meanwhile in girls' 400m hurdles, Sushma Mekala clinched bronze with a timing of 1:03.44sec. Cheng Yafan (1:02.15 sec) of China won gold while L B Dinh of Vietnam earned the silver.

Indian paddlers shrugged off their 0-3 defeat to Korea to thump Uzbekistan by an identical scoreline and qualified for the quarter-final in the mixed team championship.
