Santhali film to be screened in film festival

Jamshedpur (PTI): Santhali Filmfare award winning movie "Sitanala Re Sagun Supari" has been nominated for screening at the second edition of Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival (NIIFF-08) to be held at Kathmandu from June 5 to 8.

The NIIFF, to be organized by Indigenous Films Archive (IFA), will have a gathering of reputed producers, film-makers and people from Indigenous Organizations across the world during the three-day festival, said Surya Singh Besra, Director Pt Raghunath Academy of Santhali Cinema and Art (RASCA), here on Wednesday.

Besra said the president of IFA and eminent film maker, Nabin Subba said Santhali films and various films from other Adivasi communities in India would also be screened.

Besra said Dasrath Hansda directed Santhali film "Chandu Lekhon" (Fate) will also be screened and sought details of the film and its producer.

Claiming that the first edition of NIIFF was a grand success, Besra said the basic idea of IFA was to promote and preserve the indigenous cultures, customs and skills through the film festival.

He said the Santhali film was nominated for screening in the film festival in view of the sizeable Santhali population in Nepal, where no Santhali film has been made till date.

Claiming that the entry of SRSS was an achievement of RASCA Besra praise the financer, Ramdas Soren and the producer-cum-hero of the film Dasrath Hansda for producing the movies.
