Farmers busy in kharif sowing in Yavatmal
Yavatmal (PTI): The farmers across the district are now busy in their kharif sowing activates despite receiving lesser monsoon showers during the current season.
According to sources, 30-35 per cent of the sowing was over despite the district has recorded only 12 percent rainfall.
The sowing activities are yet to make momentum in the tehsils like Ralegaon, Wani, Maregaon, Umarkhed, Ner and Babhulgaon as these tehsils have not received adequate rainfall so far, the sources added.
Sowing was completed on 2,72,800 hectare out of 9.3 lakh hectare cultivatable land in the 16 tehsils of the district so far. The main cash crop of the district is cotton and it is sown over 70 thousand hectare so far.
The second preference of the farmers is soyabean and over 85 thousand hectare is sown with soyabean. Other crops like Jowar (4500 hectare), Tur (750 hectare), sugarcane (4500 hectare), sesame (450 hectare), Moong (800 hectare) and black gram (50 hectare) approximately so far.
The district has so far received only 105 mm rain which is over 12 per cent of the annual average rain fall. The farmers are still confused over the crop preference due to the delayed rain.
