Q & A ON CAREER CONCERNS Dated 26th Jul, 2000
I am at present studying in a CBSE school. Is there any
correspondence schooling course, which is authorized by the
Government, by which I can do schooling from home? Kindly guide
me regarding this.
V. Giridhari,
Chennai
University of Nebraska offers the American High School Diploma,
Wolsey Hall Oxford, offers the 'O' & 'A' level courses under the
GCE. The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate
(UCLES) offers the 'O' & 'A' levels, the IGCE, and AISE.
I am 35 years old defence personnel doing M.A. in Public
Administration from Annamalai University through distance
education. I would like to know whether distance education
through correspondence from Annamalai University is under U.G.C.
and whether it is valid or not.
H. K. Chabra,
Arakkonam.
A degree from Annamlai University is recognised in India but the
degree may not have the weightage of a regular degree.
I am a student of Class 12. I want to know about the best
Institutions for BCA. What is the procedure of seeking admissions
after completing my schooling?
Shantanu. A. Singh,
Lucknow.
You can write to any of the following institutions: University of
Delhi, New Delhi, University of Hyderabad, Central University, PO
Gachibowli, Hyderabad, Regional Engineering Colleges, Birla
Institute of Technology, Pilani, Ranchi University, Jawaharlal
Nehru University, School of Computer and Systems Mehrauli Road,
New Delhi, Kurukshetra University, University of Pune, Anna
University, and University of Madras. You can get relevant
information from these colleges.
I am presently employed with an e-production of CD-ROMs (of text
books) firm. My job is like a mere typist or a clerk. My basic
qualification is B.Sc. (Botany, second class) from Pune
University. Earlier I tried my best to secure a job related to my
college degree but was not successful. I could never really study
for my post graduation since I come from a poor family. I cannot
for the same reason take up further studies in various courses in
computers etc. I wish I had the money to do a course in web
design/ Internet etc. Money is perhaps the main hurdle I face, as
computer courses are expensive.
Gaurang Pradhan
Pune, Maharashtra
Since you have mentioned that you are working, you could perhaps
do a short course in computers. Most institutes offering computer
courses do have an instalment payment system where you can pay
the fees in instalments. Or else you can pursue short courses
that are relevant and for which the fees may also be less.
I have just completed B.Tech in Chemicals and am computer
literate. I have seen ads in The Hindu and other papers where IT
training institutes guarantee hundred percent oversees placement
after providing training in latest technologies for engineering
graduates or MSc/ MCA's. Can you please tell me the prospects in
this type of job and the sincerity of their assurance?
Manoj Chaurasia,
Lucknow.
Most of the institutes guarantee a placement abroad. It is quite
impossible to generalise and state whether this is true or false.
Certain institutes may do so and a few others may use it as a
tactic to lure students. We advise you to pursue a substantial
course in computers from a reputed institute, during the course
of which, if you are excellent in your coursework, placement
offers may pour in automatically.
I have just completed my M.A. (Economics). I have an excellent
academic record. Now I want to do my MBA (International
Business). What are the career prospects after doing this course
especially if I do it from SIFT (Symbiosis Institute of Foreign
Trade, Pune). Is there a better option than this?
Mr. Manvesh Kumar,
Rajendra Nagar,
Patna.
MBA in International Business is a good course to pursue and
career options are plenty. SIFT (Symbiosis Institute of Foreign
Trade, Pune) is a reputed institute from where you can pursue
your MBA, the other being the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.
I am BA graduate working in Central Government service as a Lower
Division Clerk in the Ministry. After four years of service, I
would like to join a private or government Public Relation
Department as Public Relation Officer. In this respect I would
like to do PG (Journalism Mass Communication) course from IGNOU
and may be in this academic year I may enrol my name in M.A.
(Mass Communication & Journalism) also. But due to the market
requirement and competition, I am still in dilemma. How can I
make myself as a perfect PRO? How many other courses are
available in the market? Is there any scope without experience?
Kamal Swaroop,
New Delhi.
A degree or PG in the Journalism and Mass communication is
considered as the necessary qualification for Public relations
Officer. Apart from this qualification you should have a broad
general understanding of the social, cultural, economic and
political affairs to have a good launch pad. Personal skills and
motivation are the most important in the PR functions. I believe
you should not have any apprehension about the future of the PR
field as all the organisations have realised the pervasive power
of public relations. The PR profession is all set to take the
country by storm. Some consultants and PR firms also provide on-
the- job training.
I am a BE Engineering Graduate working with a Pvt. Company. I
want to pursue higher studies and if possible get a good job in
India or abroad. Can you guide regarding the same.
Shah Manish Prafulchandra,
Baroda.
Job opportunities are the same anywhere. If you are good at your
subject then nobody can stop you from securing a good job. If you
want to go in for further studies you can always do so. This will
enhance your opportunities. The choice is yours. Higher education
will always give you better job prospects.
I'm B.com (Hons) with C.A.Inter and recently joined a Garments
Export House as an Accountant. I am facing some problems in
export documentation. Kindly advise me about recognised Institute
for Correspondence Diploma Course in Export Management
(Garments).
Vinod,
Tirupur.
All India Institute of Career Studies, Chennai offers 6 months/ 1
year Diploma Course in Export and Import management through
Correspondence. You can write to them for relevant information
about the course.
I am interested in doing B.E (Computer Science) or B.E (I.T). Is
it worthy to take I.T? Will I.T cease to exist when I finish
doing it? How about doing B.E (electric and communication). Which
field of these would help me to survive forever? Suppose I do B.E
(computer science) what course do you expect me to do by side? Is
there any master degree available for I.T? Kindly help me in this
regard.
Kishore Kumar,
Rajkot.
You can certainly survive for a long time in a field such as IT.
It will still in vogue even after you finish your BE. There is a
master's degree available in IT. B.E. (Computer science) itself
will be quite extensive. BE (ECE) would give you an exposure to
both electronics and communication. In addition doing a computer
course would equip you with the necessary qualifications. No
industry will make you survive forever!
