Move from contractual to permanent position

WORKING for big multi-national companies while remaining on the payrolls of other companies, is quite common these days. Likewise, beginning with contract positions for a few months is one way of working in the big companies. Yet, people like to continue and move from the contract to a permanent position. All contract employees try to get into the coveted permanent position, yet very few are able to succeed. Here are some ways in which you can pave an easy way to become a permanent employee of a reputed company.

Stick around and show enormous interest in your work. Hold on to the same company despite the lack of chances to get into the permanent position. This is the most important attitude to drive the employees to consider your candidature for a permanent position. Excel in your work and prove to everyone that you are passionate in the work that you do. Put your best foot forward to stay ahead in the competition of performance.

Get in touch with the right people. Make yourself visible to key decision makers. Use your networking skills and build relations with the key people. This showcases your people skills and also your enthusiasm to work for that particular company. Seek the right opportunities and let your skills and abilities do the talking. Never hesitate to ask for an opportunity. Build your network across the departments of the company if possible. Such people might even help you land in a better position elsewhere in some other company. So, begin marketing yourself.

Appear like someone who already works there. Reflect the zeal and passion of a permanent employee. Consider solving your employer's problems. Behave like a permanent employee. Shoulder responsibilities and compete them with dedication and conviction. Let people notice the loyalty and trust you have towards the organisation. Demonstrate higher motivational levels even during testing times. Volunteer to walk the extra mile to get the work done during deadlines.

Become an indispensable part of the process. Initiate a gradual process of improvement in your performance. No wonder if the impressed manager might force the management to take you as a permanent employee. All you need to do is be more empathetic to the manager and lend a helping hand to all your peers. Knowledge, experience, and an amicable attitude can make you an indispensable part of any team. Analyze the problems of the current operational environment and come with suggestions that might help at least during informal conversations with your boss.

Understand the employer's needs and work in that direction. A little amount of effort and researching can help you identify the employer's needs. Update your skills correspondingly. You are bound to have an advantage over others as you are already familiar to the organisation. Interact with managers and express your willingness to explore other areas that you have learnt. Managers appreciate such employees who are open to learning new technologies and ready to take on new challenges.

Let your results be benchmarked. You need to under-promise and over-deliver to become a reliable resource. When it is not possible to overtake or supersede the existing permanent employees, try to remain the numero uno in your team.

This might act to your advantage. You will become the first preference when employers get the idea of having some contractual employees as permanent employees.

Your work culture should be in sync with the organisational culture and your attitude should not pose any problems to the existing culture. Most importantly, develop a positive perspective towards work and have more fun. Be amicable to everyone.

You need not stress yourself to the extent of finding a new job. All you need to do is tread cautiously; get in touch with the right people; and post your intentions.
