(Questions answered on career concerns)

I am doing MSW (master of social work) What are the future prospects for me after completing the degree?

P. Shyam Prasad
AU, Vizag

Opportunities abound in NGOs and non-profit voluntary organisations. This sector offers diverse and of late, fairly well paying career options.

You could even opt for agencies, many of them international, which support the active NGOs with functions in specific areas such as health and family welfare, child welfare, care for the aged and housing.

After gaining relevant experience in an NGO, you could either work for a UN agency or secure an international placement. International organisations like the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, Norwegian funding Organisation for Rural Development (NORAD), International Labour Organisation (ILO) offer high profile jobs. These are mostly contractual in nature and the work involves liaising and policy planning.

Government of India, various state governments, public sector undertakings also employ social welfare officers in various capacities to monitor labour welfare and oversee projects funded by international agencies. As more partnerships are emerging between, international development and aid agencies, government and private sector organisations, there is a vast scope for MSW qualified candidates

Social work offers tremendous scope for individual effort. After gaining sufficient experience, you could either set up your own NGO or even work as a consultant.

I recently joined MBA. I am interested in international business as my major and marketing as minor specialisation options. Please provide information on jobs prospects for International business.
