`Khan magic' on the telly

Shahrukh Khan came into the top bracket portraying the bad guy with panache and later reached the dizzying heights of stardom playing the loverboy in some of the biggest blockbusters that have graced the Indian silver screen. Films like `Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', `Dil To Pagal Hai', `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', `Mohabbatein' and the likes firmly entrenched him as the eternal, intense romantic guy.

The television star from Delhi who made it big in Mumbai has also starred in such likable movies as `Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa', `Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' and `Yes Boss'. Shahrukh says that he does his job with a lot of diligence and hard work and a lot of thought goes into his roles. "I do a role the way I like it. I hear a story and I normally see myself in that story,'' he says.

The debacle of `Asoka' notwithstanding, Shahrukh is very much there on the top of the heroes list in Bollywood and on par if not more compared to the emerging new talent on the big screen. Meanwhile, here's a chance to watch the star's hit movies on Sony Max starting March 29 till April 26 at prime time, 9 pm.

The Shahrukh film festival kicks of with `Mohabbatein' on March 29, the Aditya Chopra directed movie which includes the `Big B' himself in a key role and also the lissome Aishwarya Rai in a special appearance. `Duplicate' on April 4, the Mahesh Bhatt directed movie has the hero playing a double role with Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre for company. `Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', the super-duper hit of Aditya Chopra's maiden venture has Shahrukh paired with his favourite co-tar Kajol as they recreate the youthful romantic times on April 5. Ketan Mehta's `O Darling Ye Hai India' , the surreal story of patriotism mixed with love is next on April 11.

Yash Chopra's sugar candy romantic tale `Dil To Pagal Hai' comes on April 12 where Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor vie for his attention and love. Rakesh Roshan's `Koyla' will be screened on April 18, while the movie which put him in the league of big banners, `Darr', will be telecast on April 19.

The reincarnation tale `Karan Arjun' made with Shahrukh and Salman was a surprise hit as it recreated an old formula with chutzpah. Kajol and Mamta Kulkarni (remember her?) are paired opposite the Khan brothers in a revenge drama carried over a generation.

The grand finale is Karan Johar's triangular love story between Shahrukh, Kajol and her cousin Rani Mukherjee, `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', which will be screened on April 26. Over to some good old times.
