National honour

Over the years many an award has come in search of K.J. Jesudas. But national honours fall into a different category and the singer had no problems in accepting the Padma Bhushan the other day. Quite unlike some other stalwarts in the world of performing arts...

And many in Kochi will share the singer's happiness, and perhaps be preparing to organise receptions in his honour.

Like the Padma Shri, this is one award that has apparently been given to one who richly deserved it.

Indeed, the singer has come a long way from the time he got his first `award' at the age of seven. That was a gold medal he won at a local competition in Fort Kochi. There was a time when he found it difficult to make both ends meet and was mocked at for trying to learn Carnatic music. Things have changed a lot since then. Both for Jesudas and Kochi.
