Targeting theatre buffs
FOR THE theatre buffs of Chennai, beginning this week, the open air auditorium at the YMCA Nandanam, is bound to hold some special attraction. A mega stage is getting ready to feature the Tamil adaptation of Shakespeare's `Richard III'.
Titled `Pattam', the two-hour Tamil play features Nasser, Pasupathi and Hans Kaushik.
From July 10, the stage set created by art director, Thotta Tharani, will reverberate with the Tamil dialogues, in a sylvan setting, in the sprawling sports ground against the backdrop of huge tree cover.
Costumes designed by Nalini Sriram, and an enthusiastic message from Rajnikant evincing keen interest in the Tamil play, set the stage for `Pattam'. The grandeur of the effort hinges on the impact that the 60 feet by 20 feet Plaster of Paris stage will create. Thotta Tharani's interest in the Tamil stage is so evident that before he left for the U.S., he had created this huge stage, which will feature 100 lights and mikes concealed with natural cover. ``Our target group is the student community besides the large canvas of theatre lovers especially the Tamil audience,'' says Nalini Radhakrishnan, CEO of Media Mix.
