More than just a clothes' show
Models Shivani Kapur, Indrani Dasgupta and Yana Gupta at the Lakme Fashion Statement Press congerence in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The ramp is laid out and the spotlight is on India's fashionable best. With the final stitches in place, the fashion industry is ready to display its cuts, curves and colours for the coming season as Lakme India Fashion Week takes the ramp in New Delhi this Friday.
And with over 50 designers vying to define India's fashion statement, the week promises to be an extravaganza of creativity. But as the organisers keep insisting, the focus through the seven days is not on the ramp alone. What with a host of workshops on skincare, fashion, catwalk and innovative cosmetics and hairstyles, there's more than just clothes and fabric on show.
Taking the show much beyond the ramp is Lakme through its fashion statement for 2002-03 termed "Think Brilliance -- Think Lakme'' that was unveiled today. As business head, Lakme Lever, Anil Chopra says, "It's not about colour. Think brilliance finds manifestation in a spirit that expresses life in its brightest moments, a mood that spells a spontaneous celebration. It's about an attitude that says: Think optimism, think unbeatable, think joy, think celebration...Think Brilliance. And of course, Lakme.''
The statement would be interpreted through the aesthetic sensibilities of three designers -- Rajesh Pratap, Monisha Jaising and Suneet Varma who would be presenting the grand finale. And showcasing their creative translation of the statement would be Lakme's face of the year, Shivani Kapur, Lakme's current ambassador, Yana Gupta, and Fleur Xavier.
A number of other initiatives to express its fashion statement have also been sketched by Lakme for the week. Besides the launch of two skincare products, there's `Eternal Brilliance' which will see a celebration of Lakme's eternal faces -- Shymolie Verma, Nandini Sen, Simone Singh and Sharon Clark. `Strokes of Brilliance' where one make-up artist would be chosen by a panel of experts everyday for the creation of mesmeric looks on the ramp. A number of workshops, an on-site beauty salon, an invitation to create your own brilliance through a palette of colours are other initiatives on the itinerary.
