Bollywood's newest pair might click

Jimmy Shergil and Hrishita Bhatt in `Dil Vil Pyar Vyar'

Bollywood always makes waves in pairs. Who can forget the Raj Kapoor-Nargis pair that gave some immortal films that are still remembered with a lot of nostalgia? Whether it is Dilip Kumar and Madhubala or Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore, audiences have always looked forward eagerly to the filmi "jodi''.

In the 1970s, pairs like Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh or Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman electrified the Bollywood scene. Even newcomers like Kumar Guarav and Vijayeta or Kamal Haasan and Rati Agnihotri gave hits in pairs. And while sometimes the chemistry works, sometimes it doesn't.

This year, Bollywood witnessed the model-turned-actor pair of Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu giving a hit in the form of "Raaz'', a small budget film that dealt with the theme of the supernatural. They have again teamed up in "Gunaah'', released just two weeks back, but the film has not done as well as "Raaz''.

The newest duo to hit the Bollywood scene is the Jimmy Shergil-Hrishita Bhatt pair who have two films lined up for them, one after the other. The first, "Dil Vil Pyar Vyar'', is slated for a October 16 release. It will soon be followed by "Haasil'', another love story set in a small Indian town.

``Jimmy Shergil and Hrishita Bhatt represent the spring colour of love in our film,'' says Anant Mahadevan, the debutante director of "Dil Vil Pyar Vyar''. "Their love is of the butterfly kind. It is basically boy meets girl kind of romance - the kind of love that happens at first sight''.

Both Jimmy and Hrishita are excited about their role in the film which basically revolves around three love stories reaching a climax. "It is a very effervescent kind of character that I play in the film,'' admits Hrishita. "I play the role of a rich boy, Hrithik, and my brief was that I should not bring any arrogance to my character,'' chips in Jimmy.

In the other film, "Haasil'', the two play different sets of characters. "It is about love in a small town in India and I play a girl who comes from a middle class family,'' says Hrishita, adding that it was completely different from the role she plays in "Dil Vil Pyar Vyar''. Jimmy too feels that his role in Haasil was different from the soft, chocolate boy kind of romance that he has come to be identified with through the films released earlier this year.

But will the two click together as a pair? "Well, that can't be said now. It all depends on how they are received by the audience,'' says a film analyst. And while pairs come and pairs go, the love story goes on forever.
