Taj hits the deck
TUNNEL, THE discotheque that once throbbed with great energy at Taj Krishna, till the Government sounded its death knell with a ban on discos a few years ago is set to come back to life this month. The ban has been lifted. And the winding passageway cleared. It is time once again for people to slip into their dancing shoes and stream into Tunnel.
``We got the permission in July and will be opening the discotheque sometime this month,'' the hotel's general manager and area director, Taj Group, Veer Vijay Singh, disclosed. He said the discotheque was coming up at its original location on the sprawling 35,000 sq ft basement area of the hotel with the best of sound and light designs. "We are spending a lot of money and making major changes in the place,'' he said. Also, coming up in the basement of the luxury hotel is a parking lot that can accommodate 100 and odd four-wheelers.
Taj Krishna, a Taj luxury hotel, has been in the midst of a major renovation exercise pumping in a whopping Rs. 65 crores during the last two years. "Another Rs. 20 crores will be invested next financial year to complete the renovation,'' a beaming Singh said.
A fleet of seven gleaming BMWs, each costing a cool Rs. 65 lakhs each, to pick up and drop guests at airport, swank elevators from Mitsubishi stable at Rs. 55 lakhs each, a brand new lobby with traditional Indian flair and international elan with carved marble pillars inlaid with mother-of-pearl, a series of carved Dholpur stone pillars, lush Moghul gardens, data ports, wireless Internet facility enabling guests to log in lounged in the lobby or the bar, exclusive dining experiences, the hotel located on a nine-acre land in the heart of the city is all about opulence in its refurbished avatar.
And the suave hospitality man, Veer Vijay Singh had some more reason to smile. The hotel won the prestigious Best Premium Business Hotel Award of the Hotel and Food Services Magazine this year. "And this was against some stiff competition from ITC Hotel Kakatiya Sheraton Towers in the city and Holiday Inn, Ahmedabad,'' Singh is quick to point out.
The awards are given based on a survey conducted by the market research agency, MARG, across various customer groups in the country with parameters like financial results, creativity in customer care, value addition in products and so on.
Way to go!
