A melange of food and fashion
Urban Nomads - a unique restaurant where food and fashion go hand-in-hand
Combining the best of both worlds, fashion and food, here comes the "Urban Nomads'' with a question that is sure to dazzle you completely - "Who is more creative at our restaurant -- the chef or the designer''
While it may not be easy to answer that one, you can mull over it by having whisper-soft "rumali rotis'' at this latest food joint in the Capital, which claims to be the country's first "fashion restaurant''.
A fashion show in progress at the restaurant
A brain-child of three entrepreneurs -- O.P.Dewan, Sushil Kumar and Rohit Aneja -- the restaurant was born out of the simple idea that food and fashion have many things in common. "It makes good business to combine the two,'' says Rohit, who as a fashion design graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), has his own factory in Okhla.
Along with the concept, there was this nagging feeling of nostalgia for the past. "Basically, all three of us come from small towns and we still cling to old memories. I can remember my house in the village back in Punjab where there was an open central courtyard around which all the floors were built,'' says Rohit.
Thus was born the "Urban Nomad'' who cannot give up the fast-paced life style of the megapolis and who still has nostalgia for the good old days when "simple living and high thinking'' was practised. "We designed the interiors in such a manner that the flavour of the past and the present co-exist. The ambience here is derived from a small town home.''
While Rohit continues to design clothes and accessories along with his wife, Vidhi, they are excited by the fact that their concept has met with tremendous response. "We have sold a sherwani here at 11 p.m. Accessories sell like hot-cakes here at all times of the day,'' says Vidhi.
And just this past week, a fashion show was held in the restaurant to kick off what they call a unique series of events which will make the concept more clear besides throwing open the doors of this eating joint to designers, hair-stylists and a whole lot of creative people to have their shows. "From now on, we will be observing fashion Fridays here. It will be a day when those related to the fashion industry can have a field day by throwing parties and inviting their connoisseurs to have a look at their creative works.''
And so, while you are around in South Delhi, drop by "Urban Nomads''. It promises to be a pleasant shopping, nay eating experience.
