Lucky dip for vacationers

FAR AWAY from the concrete jungle called Hyderabad, several clouds lay low, threatening to pour, but they restrained themselves.

But at Ocean Park, the first water theme park in the city, near Himayatsagar, the humidity was high far more than what was provided by the clouds. The summer over, the management deemed it fit to reward its patrons. All those who visited the park during the summer participated in a lucky draw, which had a gleaming new Maruti 800 as the first prize.

The Minister for Tourism, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, drew the lots for the bumper draw. The Maruti went to Altaj Hussain, a resident of Agapura. The other prizes won by those who had visited the park during the past three months were two-wheelers, return tickets from New Delhi to Kulu Manali and complimentary one-year memberships to the park.

The routine emphasis on the State's initiatives on the tourism front apart, the Minister had a good word for the park's management. He recalled how they had taken up work on the first such park in the twin cities, much before the Government's moves on the tourism front. The compliment had the chests of the management swell with pride.

The day also saw a cultural bonanza and a fashion show choreographed by J. Sanat Kumar. High wattage music filled the air. The presence of the Minister apart, a special attraction was the participation of Roopanjali, an upcoming movie star.

All of Saturday was earmarked for children, who thronged the place apart from those who came to participate in the lucky draw. The rides at Ocean Park apart, `the Kids Festival' proved to be a good draw, with competitions in dancing, singing, mimicry and mono-acting.

It was a perfect occasion for the park's management to showcase their work and give an insight to the crowds about its new additions. The Chairman, M. Thimmaiah Gupta, the Vice-Chairman, P. Ravi Kumar and the Managing Director, M. Venkateswara Rao, proudly spoke of the city's first Snow Theme Park, coming up on Lower Tank Bund Road here.
