Carnatic music lovers have something to look forward to this week. The Ninth Annual Music Festival conducted by the Kotturpuram based cultural organisation Nayaki continues to provide great music. The line-up: O.S. Thyagarajan on June 23; the sisters Ranjani and Gayathri on June 24; veteran musician Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan on June 25, Seetha Rajan on June 26, T.M. Krishna on June 27. The penultimate day (June 28) sees a break from the stream of musicians. Lavanya Ananth (a disciple of K.J. Sarasa) presents a Bharatanatyam recital.

THIS one is for art aficionados. Recent paintings by Singapore-based P. Gnana will be exhibited at Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Egmore till June 24. The show titled "Emotion in Motion" is a travelling exhibition that moves to Singapore and London after the Chennai leg. These paintings reflect the artist's reactions and explorations of human relationships. The show is presented by Gnani Arts, an organisation based in Singapore. This is for those who want to learn yoga seriously. The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram is well known for its classes on Yoga and Vedic chanting. The KYM's Institute of Yoga Studies now invites applications from graduate students for a two-year PG diploma in yoga. The course runs through four semesters and also includes topics like Indian culture, basic medical science, ayurveda and psychology. The end of the course has an examination and internship for all candidates. The last date for receiving applications is June 30. SAHARANPUR is the home of the famous carved and delicately inlaid shisham wood furniture that takes its name from the town. An exhibition of Saharanpur furniture is the centre of attraction at the "Furniture Fest" being showcased in the Central Cottage Industries Emporium, Temple Towers on Anna Salai.The fest is a celebration of Saharanpur furniture in its contemporary avatar though it retains many of its traditional charms.
