A memorable fare at BAC
|
It rained during the National Sub-Junior Aquatics competition. But the event was in no way a washout, what with nearly 600 contestants participating in the four-day champonship, and Karnataka swimmers raking in the medals.

AFTER A gap of nearly a decade, the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre played host to the National Sub-Junior Aquatics Championship from July 10 to 13.
The swimming events were held at the BAC pool and the diving contests at the Jayanagar pool.
Nearly 600 contestants figured in the four-day championship which ended on a high note for Karantaka.
The hosts claimed the overall championship title in swimming while Maharashtra was top of the heap in diving.
It is not hard to fathom why Karnataka in general and Bangalore swimmers in particular dominate aquatics in the country.
A good support system, committed coaches, and infrastructure play a large role and Bangalore has them aplenty, thanks to Karnataka Swimming Association's visionary approach.
The BAC had all the reason to be pleased about the show with its wards like V. Bharath Kumar, Nivedita, and Arjun faring well in the championship. Shuba Chittaranjan from PMSC, Jayanagar, hogged the limelight to a large extent in the girls' section.
The championship had its hiccup in the form of a delayed start on the inaugural day but all that was quickly forgotten once the show got underway.
Some of the State swimmers added colour to the events with depiction of mythical figures from Yakashgana every day during medal ceremony.
Call it a custom, whenever Bangalore hosts a swim meet, it invariably rains.
It did again. But this time it was a shower of medals for Karnataka.
