A fearless crusader
Sir, - The assassination of the All-Ceylon Tamil Congress leader,
Kumar Ponnambalam, is another sad development in the bloody
history of Sri Lanka. The junior Ponnambalam carried on his
illustrious father's legacy of speaking his mind fearlessly.
Often his was a lone voice of passion and reason for the Tamil
cause. In his death, colleagues, friends and acquaintances like
me have lost a valuable friend and Sri Lanka has lost one of its
proud sons. Despite his gruesome death, the assassins will never
succeed in their designs to suppress the quest for peace and
equality.
R. Kannan,
Deputy Head, U.N. Liaison Office,
Zagreb, Croatia
