Rupee steady
MUMBAI, JAN. 7. The rupee ended quietly steady against the U.S.
dollar in an extremely thin and range-bound trading at the inter-
bank foreign exchange market here today.
Opening around Rs. 43.51/52 a dollar, the Indian unit was wedged
in a tight band of 43.5050 and 43.5250 and later settled at
43.5050/5150 at the close, unchanged from overnight closing
levels.
The rupee-dollar outright spot dealings were quiet and confined
to narrow grooves with most participants sidelined and reluctant
to take fresh large positions in the absence of market-moving
factors. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference
rate at Rs. 43.51 a dollar.
