Rare double for Jhano Hansdah


KOCHI, JAN. 7. On Friday, Ranchi University's Jhano Hansdah achieved a rare double in the first all-India varsities archery championship at the College of Fisheries, Panangad here. She won the individual championship in both the Olympic and Indian rounds, the only person to do so in the three-day event. The Jamshedpur Women's College student had also swept all the four FITA event golds in the championship.

Delhi University's international Rajesh Hasdak emerged from his classmate Ghasi Ram Beshra's shadow finally and won the men's individual honours, by crushing Ranchi University's Vivek Kumar 104-88 in the men's Olympic round final.

Delhi University made a clean sweep of the men's titles, while Ranchi swept the women's team honours.

The results (Olympic round): Individual championship (men's final): Rajesh Hasdak (Delhi) bt Vivek Kumar (Ranchi) 104-88. For third place: Gajendra Sharma (Rajasthan) bt Nirmal Kumar (Ranchi) 97-92. Semifinals: Rajesh bt Gajendra Sharma 100-94, Vivek Sharma bt Nirmal Kumar 91-85.

Women's final: Jhano Hansdah (Ranchi) bt D. Saiswari Rao (Ranchi) 101-66. For third place: S. Rashmi (Bangalore) bt Rachna (Delhi) 23-17.

Men's team final: University of Delhi (Ghasi Ram Beshra, Rajesh Hasdak, Avdesh Raghav) bt Ranchi University, Bihar (Nirmal Kumar, Christopher A. Whyte, Reetendra Kumar) 227-194. For third place: Osmania University, Hyderabad bt Punjabi University, Patiala 171- 152.

Women's team final: Ranchi University (Jhano Hansdah, D.Saiswari Rao, Deepa Kumari) bt Delhi University (Rachana, Sunaina, Pushpalatha) 115-25.

Indian round (individual championship):

Men: 1. Sushil Kumar (Delhi, 508 pts), 2. Anil Kumar Singh (Ranchi, 431), 3. Ravikant (Delhi, 374).

Women: Jhano Hansdah (Ranchi, 188 pts), 2. Ranjana Dass (Delhi, 156), 3. Deepa Kumari (Ranchi, 98).
