U.S. Senators meet Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, JAN. 14. Four senior U.S. Senators met Pakistan's military ruler, General Pervez Musharraf, today in the highest- level American visit since October's coup. ``It was a good visit,'' the delegation leader, Mr. Tom Daschle, told presspersons.

Mr. Daschle, a Senate Democratic leader, declined to comment further on his talks with Gen. Musharraf and later with the Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul Sattar.

The Senators met delegations from the Pakistan Muslim League of the ousted Prime Minister, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, and an alliance of the Opposition parties led by the Pakistan People's Party of the former Premier, Ms. Benazir Bhutto.

Pak. protests to India

The Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mr. Sudhir Vyas, was summoned by the Foreign Office here and a protest was lodged against the alleged harassment of a Pakistani mission official in New Delhi on the charge of paying school fees with counterfeit currency notes.

He was told on Thursday evening that the charge against the Pakistani official was ``unfounded and frivolous''.

Mr. Vyas said he had pointed out that the matter was between the school and the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and had asked how the Indian Government was concerned in the matter.

Mr. Vyas said that dealing in counterfeit notes was a serious crime in India and if such an incident had taken place police investigation was necessary.
