Common Rasi and Navamsa location (Vargottama)
OUR readers would have noted that for certain locations in one of
the nine (Star Pada) quarters in the Rasi Chart, the location in
the Navamsa Chart is in the same Zodiacal Sign. Consider the
following:
For Aswini 1 location, the Sign in Rasi is Mesha, and the
location in Navamsa too is Mesha.
For the Lagna, the Moon, or any other planet located in the Rasi
Chart in Rohini 2, the shared Sign in the Rasi and the Navamsa
Charts will be Rishabha.
Lagna or Planet housed in the Third Pada of Punarvasu, will show
it in the Rasi and Navamsa Charts in the shared Sign of Mithuna.
A Planet or Lagna located in Punarvasu 4 will be in the Sign of
Kataka in both the Rasi and the Navamsa Charts.
Such common sharing of a Sign in both the Charts is characterised
by the term Vargottama. Vargottama will be enjoyed with the
shared Sign of Simha when the location in Pubba (Pooram) 2; and
with the shared Sign of Kanya when the Star Pada location is
Chitta (Chittirai) 2.
Similarly, Vargottama obtains in the following location examples
too:
Chitthirai 3 - Shared Sign: Thula
Visakha 4 - Shared Sign: Vrishchika
Uttarashada 1 - Shared Sign: Dhanus
Uttarashada 2 - Shared Sign: Makara
Satabhishak 3 - Shared Sign: Kumbha
Revathi 4 - Shared Sign: Meena.

Queries answered
What is the significance of Sathabishekam, and what benefits come
from celebrating the rituals?
K. Balasubramaniam, Chennai-600093.
Sathabishekam is celebrated when a person completes 80 years of
age and enters the 81st year as per Janma Nakshatra. Another
approach is for Sathabishekam to be celebrated when the person
has lived through 1000 Moons (Sahasra Chandra), which will place
the occasion after 83, and before 85, years. Kanakabishekam too
may be conducted, with Sathabishekam, for a person who has lived
that long, has a Seemantha Puthra, that son has got a Seemantha
Puthra, and the grandson too has a Seemantha Puthra.
These rituals celebrate a person's living long and well, with his
wife and a large family of children, grand-children, and great
grand-children. The attendant Japas, Homas etc. will confer
benefits upon the native and his family members, and bring all-
round happiness and prosperity. Ayushya Homam will promote
benefit for the long-living couple.
