NEW DELHI, JAN. 19. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the CPI(M),
the Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP) and the Janata Dal(Secular),
today decided to have an electoral understanding for the next
month's Assembly elections in Bihar.
``We have decided to join hands to take up the challenge posed by
BJP and its allies and fight elections together in Bihar,'' the
CPI(M) leader, Mr. Harkishan Singh Surjeet, said at a joint press
conference attended by the RJD President Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav,
SJP President, Mr. Chandra Sekhar and JD(S) president, Mr. H. D.
Deve Gowda here.
The RJD-led front has come into existence after the CPI,
CPM(ML)(L), MCC and Samajvadi Party announced formation of a new
front to fight the Bihar elections. In response to a specific
question, Mr. Surjeet said they had approached the CPI to be part
of the RJD-led alliance but the CPI had declined.
