V. C. Kabeer sworn in

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 19. Mr. V. C. Kabeer was sworn in Minister in the Nayanar Cabinet today. The Governor, Mr. Sukhdev Singh Kang, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Kabeer who took the oath in God's name in the presence of a galaxy of leaders including the Chief Minister, Mr. E. K. Nayanar, several MLAs, scores of NCP workers and family members.

The swearing-in ceremony lasted barely a few minutes. Mr. Kabeer took the oath in Malayalam. Scores of NCP workers from Mr. Kabeer's constituency were present at the Raj Bhavan lawns well before the ceremony began. Mr. Kabeer greeted Mr. Nayanar, the Speaker, Mr. M. Vijayakumar, and the LDF convener, Mr. V. S. Achuthanandan, and hugged the NCP State president, Mr. Ramachandran Kadannappally, before taking the oath of office and secrecy.Among the others present were the CPI leaders, Mr. P. K. Vasudevan Nair, Mr. Veliyam Bhargavan, the Irrigation Minister, Mr. V. P. Ramakrishna Pillai, the Revenue Minister, Mr. E. Chandrasekharan Nair, the Local Administration Minister, Mr. Paloli Mohammed Kutty, the Finance Minister, Mr. T. Sivadasa Menon, the Congress(I) leaders, Mr. G. Karthikeyan, Mr. Oommen Chandy, Mr. Aryadan Mohammed and Mr. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the NCP national general secretary, Mr. T. P. Peethambaran Master, the KC(J) leader, Mr. P. C. George, and the KC(Jacob) leader, Mr. T. M. Jacob.

Mr. A. C. Shanmughadas, who put in his papers as Health Minister to make way for Mr. Kabeer, was one of the first to reach the swearing-in venue.
