Pak. threatens response to 'violations''

ISLAMABAD, JAN.24. Pakistan today described `violations' of the Line of Control (LoC) by Indian Army in Chamb sector on Saturday as `intolerable' and threatened to ``respond appropriately''. The threat was issued in a statement after a meeting of the army commanders chaired by military ruler, Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

Pakistan also said it had asked the U.N. Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Annan, to intercede between the two countries.

``A meeting of the corps commanders..decided that India's blatant violations such as in the Iftikharbad sector (in Chamb area) were intolerable and that the Pakistan armed forces reserved the right to respond appropriately,'' the official APP news agency quoted the military statement as saying.
