Indian juniors are world champs
COLOMBO, JAN. 28. Even as India's senior cricketers were caving
in against the Pakistanis at Perth in the Carlton and United
Series, the nation today received the heart-warming news of a
trophy triumph for its under-19 team in the World Cup, with a
comfortable six-wicket victory over the host, Sri Lanka.
The showing of the Indian juniors in their quest for the World
Cup - which England had won in the last edition in South Africa -
has been exemplary. India conquered every opponent during the
championship, and this included the champion, England, and later
Australia, in the semifinal.
At the Sinhalese Sports Club, the Indian boys outplayed Sri Lanka
for the second time after beating the home team in the super-
league a week ago. Mohammad Kaif, the skipper, and his doughty
set of players, deserve all-round praise for their outstanding
performance.
India is also the World Champion in the under-15 group.
