Uma Bharti demands Arjun's arrest
BHOPAL, JAN. 28. The Union Tourism Minister, Ms. Uma Bharti has
said that she would resort to an agitation if the senior
Congress(I) leader, Mr. Arjun Singh was not arrested in
connection with the killing of a police constable by a spotted
deer at his Kerwha dam house, near here, on Tuesday.
In a letter addressed to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr.
Digvijay Singh yesterday, Ms. Bharti also demanded that Mr. Arjun
Singh pay a compensation of Rs. 50 lakhs to the family of the
constable, Kailash Singh Yadav.
Urging the Chief Minister to give directives for holding an
inquiry into the killing, the Union Minister said the dependents
of Yadav should be given a Government job.
She said that the incident indicated that ``the state
administration appeared to be lax in dealing with powerful
people''.
In a letter to Mr. Arjun Singh, the Minister hoped that he would
``provide full cooperation in initating action against those
responsible for the killing of Yadav''.
