Verma appointed TRAI chairperson


NEW DELHI, JAN. 28. The Union Government tonight appointed the former chairman of the State Bank of India, Mr. M.S. Verma, as chairperson of the reconstituted Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for a three-year term.

Mr. Ravikant, presently chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), has been appointed wholetime member of the TRAI for three years, while Mr. R.R.N. Prasad, member of the erstwhile TRAI, a wholetime member for a two-year term.

Mr. Rakesh Mohan, director general, NCAER, and Dr. N.Sheshagiri, Director General, NIC, and special secretary in the Ministry of IT, have been named part-time members for a three- year term each, an official spokesman told UNI here.
