Bajrang Dal firm on meet

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, FEB. 2. The national president of Bajrang Dal, Mr. Surendra Jain, said at a press conference here today that the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's message that the Bajrang Dal would not be allowed to hold its convention was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

Mr. Jain said that about 11,000 delegates were expected to participate in the convention, but now there would be a much bigger participation and the convention would be organised at any cost. The convention of the Dal which would be devoted to national security, would be inaugurated by the former CBI chief, Mr. Joginder Singh.

Taking a dig at the Chief Minister by displaying an audio- cassette of Masood Azhar, who was recently released in exchange for the passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines plane, he said that these cassettes-calling upon people to join the militant training camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan to wage a Jihad (religious war) against India-were openly being circulated in the State capital. The ISI agents and drug mafias were also active in the State but the State Government had failed to do take any steps to check this, Mr. Jain said.

The Cabinet sub-committee on Political Affairs held its meeting here today to consider the issue of proposed convention. It was decided at this meeting that the district administration be directed to take the decision about the permission for holding the convention ``keeping in view the objective of maintaining communal harmony and law and order.''

VHP's threat

PTI reports:

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today threatened to disrupt all programmes of Mr. Digvijay Singh for disallowing Bajrang dal to hold its national convention in Bhopal.

The senior vice-president of the VHP, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, told reporters in Delhi that the decision was unconstitutional.
