Centre concerned over T.N. violence
By Harish Khare
NEW DELHI, FEB. 2. The Centre has taken a serious view of the
violence that has rocked Tamil Nadu today in the wake of the
AIADMK leader, Ms. Jayalalitha's ``conviction'' in a corruption
case. After confabulation at the highest level, it was decided
that the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, should speak to
the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi.
The Home minister later contacted Mr. Karunanidhi to convey the
Centre's concern, and it is learnt that Mr. Advani has advised
the Chief Minister to deal with the disrupters ``with a firm
hand''.
It is also learnt that the BJP's central leadership has advised
the Tamil Nadu unit to take up in a big way this outbreak of
violence and vandalism. The BJP State leaders have been asked to
join hands with other groups to politically isolate Ms.
Jayalalitha.
