'Strike to continue till GO is issued'
By Our Special Correspondent
HUBLI, FEB. 2. The two organisations representing the engineering
college teachers who are on strike demanding the revision of
payscales, namely the Visvesvaraya Technological University
College Teachers' Association (VTUCTA) and the All-Karnataka
Engineering College Teachers' Association (AKECTA), have ruled
out withdrawal of the strike.
A decision to this effect was taken at a joint meeting of the two
associations, which was convened specially to consider the
situation arising out of the statement made by the Minister of
State for Higher Education, Dr. G. Parameshwar, who had announced
that the Government had conceded the demand for pay revision.
While welcoming the statement of the minister in this regard, the
meeting felt that there was no change in the situation before and
after the commencement of the strike. The strike would continue
till a Government Order was issued and steps taken to ensure that
the revised payscales were made applicable to the teachers of the
private and unaided engineering colleges in the State.
A decision was taken at the meeting to boycott all examinations,
including practicals, theory, invigilation and valuation of
papers of engineering examinations conducted by all the
universities in the State.
In an appeal to the students and the parents, the associations
made it clear that it was not the teachers who were responsible
for the confusion created by the strike, but the State
Government.
