Responding to threat
Sir, - This has reference to the article by Ms. Malini
Parthasarathy on the strained Indo-Pakistan relations (TheHindu,
Jan. 26). Pakistan has been under military rule for more than
half of its existence and India dealt with the military regimes
in the past.
It has never said it is averse to a dialogue with Pakistan. It
only wants Islamabad to stop cross-border terrorism and create
the right climate for a dialogue to settle all disputes including
Kashmir. It is a legitimate demand.
The whole world knows that it was Gen. Pervez Musharraf who sent
Pakistani intruders into Kargil even while the two Prime
Ministers were signing the Lahore declaration. When Gen.
Musharraf says he would teach India a lesson, you will not expect
our Defence Minister to take the threat lying down. He has
unveiled the `limited war' doctrine.
A. Manian,
Udhagamandalam
