ECB planning Indo-Pak series in England
MUMBAI, FEB. 2. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has
invited India and Pakistan to play a three-match one-day series
against each other in what could become sub-continental cricket's
most unique `off shore venue' - England itself.
According to a spokesperson for the ECB, the proposed three-match
series is scheduled for September, at the end of the English
country season. Pakistan has already accepted the invitation and
the ECB is awaiting word from the Indian Board.
The ECB hopes to squeeze in the series before the Indians and
Pakistanis head for the Sahara Cup in Toronto. For the first time
ever England is not expected to participate in an international
one-day series held on its own shores.
This idea was triggered off by the overwhelming response of the
British Asian population to the matches involving the three South
Asian teams in the 1999 World Cup. The ECB now hopes to cash in
on the goodwill and support for what will be a unique contest.
