Gill holds talks with Bihar officials
PATNA, FEB. 3. The Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. M. S. Gill,
today held a high-level meeting with senior Bihar officials to
review the preparations for holding ``fair, free and peaceful''
assembly poll in the State.
The Chief Secretary, Mr. S. N. Biswas, the State Home Secretary,
Mr. U. N. Panjiyar, the Director-General of Police, Mr. K. A.
Jacob and the Divisional Commissioners of Patna, Magadh, Palamu,
North and South Chhotaganagpur were among those who attended the
meeting with Dr. Gill who arrived here on a two-day visit to the
State.
Arrangements for countering the poll boycott call given by the
outlawed Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and People's War Group
(PWG) were among the issues discussed, official sources said.
The PWG and MCC extremists had killed more than 50 securitymen in
a series of landmine blasts to enforce their poll boycott calls
during the last Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Dr. Gill told
reporters at Patna airport that he would take stock of the
situation.
