Can we stick it?
Sir, - It was really disgusting to see the so-called guardians of
the nation using a stick to garland the statue of Mahatma Gandhi
in Bhopal on his death anniversary (TheHindu, Jan 31). Is it
necessary to adopt such a crude method to pay floral tributes to
the Father of the Nation?
In our country, he is remembered only on October 2 and on January
30. The rest of the days his statue is a mute spectator to the
endless violence, corruption and lawlessness.
N. Balasubramanian,
Chennai
Sir, - Every year the drama is enacted. Bird droppings are
removed and the Gandhi statue is given a facelift. Leaders
accompanied by the press are prepared to climb any heights to
garland the Mahatma. Some others pose before the chakra, in
typical Gandhi style. Let not the press give any publicity to
such gimmickry.
T. V. Sree Kumar,
Pondicherry
