BJP, allies set to win in three States: survey
NEW DELHI, FEB. 19. The BJP and its allies are set to sweep to
power in Bihar, Orissa and Haryana where Assembly elections are
being held now, India Today newsweekly said in a survey
published today.
The survey, conducted by India Today-DRS (Development and
Research Services), has forecast that BJP and its allies Samata
party and Janata dal(U) would bag 175 to 180 of the total 324
seats in Bihar.
The ruling RJD led by Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, would suffer a
severe setback and its tally would be in the range of 65 to 75 as
against 173 in the last polls. The survey says that though the
vote percentage of Congress(I) would increase, its seats would be
reduced from the present 29 to between 18 and 25.
In Orissa, the BJP-BJD would bag 105 seats out of the 147 seats,
while the tally of the ruling Congress(I) would slump to 30 from
80.
The survey said Haryana would witness the Indian National Lok
Dal-BJP combine bagging 55 out of the total 90 seats while the
forecast for the Congress(I) was 25 seats, 14 more than last
elections. The survey was conducted between February. 12 to 15.
The sample size was 7,920 voters in 76 representative seats in
Bihar, 3360 voters in 40 Orissa seats and 1,800 voters in 30
Haryana seats.
