'Downsizing' of Govt. on anvil
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, FEB. 22. A significant scheme for ``downsizing'' the
Central Government is said to have been formalised by the
Vajpayee Government and an announcement of the details are likely
to form part of the Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha's Budget
presentation on February 29.
The new scheme is expected to offer a handsome package for
employees accepting the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) which
could be four to five times what an employee would normally get
at the time of retirement. The Government scheme also proposes a
freeze on fresh employment or on filling up vacant posts, sources
said here today.
