Whither tolerance?
Sir, - Apropos of the BJP spokesman, Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu's
outburst against the Central Vigilance Commissioner, it may be
recalled that the Prime Minister, addressing the nation on
October 16, 1999, said the principle of ``zero tolerance'' would
be applied while dealing with corruption which had bred contempt
for the law. Mr. A. B. Vajpayee meant that no case of corruption
would be tolerated and that the corrupt would be punished. The
hawala scam brought out the linkage among corrupt businessmen,
politicians, bureaucracy and criminals. In the light of Mr.
Vajpayee's stand, Mr. Naidu's remarks against the CVC do not
augur well. In fact, the nation owes a debt to the CVC for having
referred the matter to the CBI for further probe.
Rasool Sahib,
Kurnool (A.P)
