SC orders notice to Jayalalitha
By J. Venkatesan
NEW DELHI, FEB. 28. The Supreme Court today ordered notice to the
AIADMK leader, Ms. Jayalalitha, on a special leave petition filed
by the Tamil Nadu Government against the Madras High Court
judgment upholding the trial court's order discharging her in the
``coal import case''.
The notice, returnable in three weeks, was issued by a Bench,
comprising Mr. Justice K.T.Thomas and Mr. Justice M.B. Shah,
after hearing arguments from Mr. Shanthi Bhushan, senior counsel
for the State Government.
Mr. Bhushan contended that the trial court and the High Court had
committed an error in discharging the respondent (Ms.
Jayalalitha) when there were overwhelming materials to show her
involvement in the conspiracy to import coal.
