Net enabled products from Videocon

MUMBAI, FEB. 28. The Rs. 4,000 crore Videocon group today
launched its new range of net enabled consumer electronics
products to usher in a new era of convergence. The products
include V-NET, Net Cruiser with built-in VCD player.
The company launched V-Net, a Net cruiser with built-in VCD
player. This product can be attached to any conventional
television and comes with an in-built 56 K V.90 high speed modem.
When connected to a standard telephone line and TV display, it
can surf the Internet, thus negating the need for a computer.
V-Net allows the user to send and receive e-mail and it also
allows off-line drafting of e-mail to save on Internet time. It
supports Internet browsing in English, Chinese and Cantonese
Pingyin input methods. Also it comes with an open platform which
is compatible with any Internet access plan and the user can
subscribe to any ISP.
The VCD player is compatible with SVCD, VCD and CD and can be
played on any PAL/NTSC dual systems. Priced at Rs. 4,990, V-Net
comes with 25 hours of free Internet time as part of its
introductory offer, the company has decided to give 5 VCDs and 5
Audio CDs at a marginal price of Rs. 1,000.
Speaking on the launch occasion of V-Net, Mr. N. Gupta,
Director, said, ``The television, the computer and the telephone
are three devices that would come together and will merge into an
integrated device capable of performing functions pertaining of
all of them and more. The borders between entertainment,
communication and information would disappear. We are the first
company in India to adapt to this global trend and offer Indian
consumer such integrated technology.''
