Tremor in Koyna

KOYNA (Maharashtra), MARCH 12. An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale was recorded with its epicentre 39 km away from the Koyna dam in Satara district of western Maharashtra tonight.

According to Koyna observatory sources, the earthquake shook the region at around 11-35 p.m. and lasted for 28 seconds. There has been no damage to the dam but damage to property has been reported with several houses totally destroyed in Dhavawadi village near the epicentre.

Mild tremors in Mumbai

Mild tremors were experienced in different parts of Mumbai tonight.

The fire brigade received numerous calls in this regard but till now there was no report of any casualties due to the quake.
