Murdoch holds talks with major IT players

BANGALORE, MARCH 12. Exploring possibilities of investment in the
information technology (IT) sector of the country, the Chairman
of News Corporation, Mr. Rupert Murdoch, today held talks with
major IT players in Bangalore.
According to his spokesman, Mr. Murdoch met top-level officials
of Infosys and held talks with them. The Infosys Chairman, Mr.
N.R. Narayana Murthy, was present. Mr. Murdoch went around the
Infosys campus and a presentation was made to him by the company.
The spokesman said there were no business propositions and the
visit was merely a ``courtesy call''. Mr. Murdoch also called on
the Chairman of Wipro, Mr. Azim Premji, and visited Planetasia
and held talks with the Chief Executive Officer of Microland, Mr.
Pradeep Kar. He is scheduled to call on the Chief Minister, Mr.
S.M. Krishna, on Monday before winding up his three-day visit to
Bangalore.
Mr. Murdoch flew in here from Hong Kong in his private jet on
Saturday. He will leave for Mumbai after meeting Mr. Krishna, and
thereafter proceed to New Delhi.
He announced on Saturday his plans to invest several hundred
millions of dollars in India in the next two years.
