RSS' demand impractical: BJP

NEW DELHI, MARCH 12. The BJP today termed as ``impractical'' the RSS demand for scrapping of the Constitution and sought to dismiss suggestions that the Sangh's criticism of the Vajpayee Government's economic policies would strain the relation between them.

The BJP vice-president, Mr. J. P. Mathur, told presspersons here that scrapping of the Constitution ``does not seem practicable under the present circumstances because that would mean setting up a new Constituent Assembly, which is not feasible.''

The BJP general secretary, Mr. Narendra Modi, when asked to comment on RSS' critical remarks about the NDA Government's economic policies, said these did not give any impression of any dichotomy between the BJP and the Sangh.

``Where is the conflict in the suggestions of the RSS and the BJP,'' he said, adding that both were free to express their respective views as independent bodies.

Mr. Mathur said the RSS only made some suggestions at the level of an organisation and the BJP was a separate entity and both were different organisations.

``May be at some point of time some of their suggestions could become acceptable'', he said.
