Inzamam, Afridi save Pakistan
KARACHI, MARCH 12. Middle order batsman Inzamam-Ul Haq pushed
Pakistan to 256 all out on the first day of the third and final
cricket Test against Sri Lanka here on Sunday. Pakistan's batting
faltered once again as only Haq with 86 and Shahid Afridi with 74
hit a purple patch. Only two other batsmen could reach double
figures on a hot day before a small holiday crowd. At close Sri
Lanka was 10-0 after batting for two overs.
Haq's polished knock rescued Pakistan from another low score as
he kept his end intact until falling prey to his perennial run
out jinx. He hit ten boundaries in his 244-minute stay at the
crease.
Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who guided his team
to a 57-run win in Peshawar with a ten-wicket haul, was again the
pick of tourists' bowling picking up four for 89, taking his
series tally to 22 wickets.
