Mirwaiz Farooq under house arrest

SRINAGAR, MARCH 20. The acting chairman of the All-Party Hurriyat
Conference (APHC), Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq, was placed under
house arrest this morning, to prevent him from going to New Delhi
in connection with a ``meeting'' with the visiting U.S.
President, Mr. Bill Clinton.
Mirwaiz Farooq said police cordoned off his residence during the
night and he was asked not to go outside without police
permission.
