'BSP will oppose Constitution review'
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, MARCH 20. The Bahujan Samaj Party President, Mr.
Kanshi Ram, today declared that his party would oppose tooth and
nail the Union Government's move to bring about changes in the
Constitution.
Addressing a public meeting here organised to receive a BSP jeep
rally, he said under the ``Manusmrithi constitution'' a majority
of the people in the country were made to live in abject poverty
and slavery.
The Indian Constitution had given new hope to the dalits and
minorities.
Mr. Kanshi Ram said that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled
Tribes were aware of their rights and could not be cowed down.
The NDA Government headed by the BJP was bent upon changing the
Constitution to suit its purpose.
He hailed the services of the founder of the Dravida Kazhagam
(DK), E. V. Ramaswamy Naikar, for launching a movement for the
removal of untouchability in the South.
Mr. Kanshi Ram said his party would continue to educate people of
their rights and the jeep rallies flagged off from Kanyakumari in
Tamil Nadu on March 15 were part of this programme. The four
rallies, after taking various routes through the southern States,
would converge at Mumbai on April 14 to participate in the Dr.
Ambedkar Jayanthi on April 15, he said.
