Former Nagaland CM dead
KOHIMA, MARCH 22. The former Nagaland Chief Minister and leader
of Nagaland People's Council (NPC) Vamuzo, died at his residence
on Wednesday, following a severe cardiac arrest. He was 62. He is
survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.
One of the leading activists of the Naga underground movement in
the 50s, Vamuzo along with Kevichusha, Vizol and others planted
the seeds of regional politics when the Nagaland State was formed
in 1963.
Vamuzo was elected to the State Assembly in 1969 on the United
Democratic Front (UDF) tickets and became a Minister in the Vizol
Ministry in the mid-70s and Jashokie Ministry in the early '80s.
He became the Chief Minister in 1990 and took the initiative to
form a United Forum of Regional Parties in the North-East for
strengthening regional politics.
The Chief Minister, Mr. S. C. Jamir, the Home Minister, Mr.
Neiphu Rio, Cabinet colleagues, leaders of different political
parties paid homage to the departed leader.
The Nagaland Government today declared holiday as a mark of
respect. The funeral will be held tomorrow.
